Sanur

Big-day machine on the wet-season east coast

A heavy, hollow right-hand reef break that only gets going on big wet-season swells. Long paddle out — boat is recommended on bigger days.

Sanur — Frequently asked

Is Sanur a beginner spot?

No — Sanur is an intermediate-to-advanced reef break with a long paddle out and a strong current. The wave is mellow only relative to Uluwatu. Beginners go to Old Man's or Berawa, not Sanur.

When does Sanur work?

Wet season (Nov-Mar) when the east-coast picks up the trade-wind swell. Dry-season SW swells barely register here. Mid to mid-high tide on a glassy morning is the window.

How long is the paddle out at Sanur?

Long — 300-500m depending on which peak you're targeting. There's a channel running past the reef that helps, but expect a 10-15 minute paddle on bigger days. Save energy for wave-catching.
