For classic Old Man's longboard lines, bring a log 9'0" or longer to maximize wave count. Shorter boards like funboards (7'0"-8'0") work too, especially on the smaller 2-3 ft SW swells during wet season (Nov-Mar), but expect to get out-paddled by the bigger boards.

Old Man's wave shape is always beginner-friendly, but the dry season (Apr-Oct) brings consistent SW swells and much bigger crowds, often 50-70 people. Aim for a mid-tide around 1.5m, right before 7 AM, to have the most space before the masses from nearby Batu Bolong arrive.
